Although the goal of the blog is about wellness and sustainability, mental wellness and health hold dearer to me. Speaking out about mental issues and aiding persons in finding support is something that I try my best to do, especially when it comes to Red Sun Aromatherapy.

Let's take a quick look at herbal teas and its support on health and communities.

Tea & Mental Health

There are different ways to improve your mental health, depending on your state, of course. Some illnesses include depression and anxiety, which are prominently known, but also OCD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, PTSD, eating disorders, and more. People may choose to go the natural route or the clinical route and take medication, depending on the severity, of course.

Not to disclose too much, but I myself suffer from mental illness and have decided medication works best for me. However, every now and then, I still lean into the natural and herbal side of health improvement.

Tea in the Caribbean

Yup, I love a good cup of tea. And no I’m not British, but I am from a British territory.

Being from the Caribbean, we drink lots a tea, especially in the mornings. We typically call it Bush Tea and enjoy different blends of plants and herbs. One of the most beloved would be lemongrass tea, usually mixed with a bit of lemon and ginger. If you can’t get your hand on the plant, you can find a good alternative here.

Tea's Impact

For many years, teas have been blended to rid coughs & colds, energize, calm, and revitalize. Different regions and cultures curate blends vital to their livelihood, and with International Tea Day (May 21st) approaching, we have an opportunity to celebrate the health and economic importance of Tea.

According to the United Nations, tea processing and production accounts for the livelihoods and support of million of families in under-developed countries. Its a billion-dollar industry that also contribute the sustainable food systems.

Tea continues to play a significant role in shaping cultures, economies, and social interactions around the world and has become one of the most traded commodities in the world.

Here are a few tea/blends to include in your kitchen. Naturally, I’ve linked mostly teas from Caribbean Teamakers and brands, but feel free to find a brand that closely resembles your culture.
